Supervise the maintenance and Additional Works teams and operatives in the performance of their duties to recognised standards of productivity and quality and compliance with essential health and safety provisions.

Technical Responsibilities

Oversee the compliant, effective and timely delivery of Statutory, Mandatory and Reactive Maintenance and Additional Services.

Monitor Supply Chain performance, service delivery, quality and safe working on site.

Ensure suitably qualified and experienced operatives are directed to relevant tasks.

Monitor Supply chain work teams to ensure that Operatives have appropriate vehicles, equipment stores and skills to perform allocated jobs.

Support Area Delivery Managers to deliver tasks on maintenance and Additional Works activities.

Provide Professional and Technical support and advice where required to maintenance teams, the Employer and End Users.

Support the Help Desk, respond to request for professional and technical advice.

Ensure safety equipment and PPE is stored and maintained correctly.

Periodically examine maintenance records to ensure that necessary work has been undertaken as required by the safe system of work.

Report all dangerous occurrences or near misses.

Ensure compliance and adherence of with Health, Safety, Sustainability and Fire procedures.

To keep and maintain records and update WorkManager as required.

If an Appointed Person (AP), accept sole responsibility for the practical implementation and operation of JSP 375.

Ensure as far as reasonably practical that all persons within the site observe the requirements of JSP 375.

Issue and cancel permits and related documents under the safe system of work.

Appoint Skilled Persons in accordance with the procedures JSP 375and other MoD Notices and Instructions.

Assess the competence of skilled persons for continuing appointment and review experience and performance before re-appointment and at other times as necessary. Ensure skilled persons are aware of any restrictions related to their work.

Where necessary, suspend the appointment of skilled persons.

Produce risk assessments and method statements and where necessary safety programmes and permits to work.

Support area teams on matters related to existing installations and their interaction with new works

Inspect safety equipment before and after use.

Review risk registers and follow maintenance and management processes.

Ensure compliance with health, safety, sustainability, quality and other statutory requirements.

Technical competencies

Plan resources effectively and monitor against clear objectives, ensuring milestones and targets are met.

Through the use of available technology produce and analyse data, maintain accurate records and identify problems within area of remit.

Work in compliance with company processes and identify and share effective ways of working within the contract.

Manage cost and value for money utilising technical knowledge and experiential experience.

Takes responsibility for the implementation of Health & Safety processes on site and shares effective ways of working within the contract.

Demonstrate a sound understanding of Construction & Property Maintenance processes and maintain focus on site compliance to deliver results.

Essential Skills

Excellent leadership and management skills

Management of a safe system of work

Familiarity with the sites and equipment for which responsible

Significant practical experience in construction/property maintenance

Demonstrable experience of working together an on own initiative

Solving problems and taking decisions

Ability and willingness to travel

Essential Training & Qualification

HNC level qualification in a Building/Civil Engineering or Electrical/Mechanical Engineering related discipline (or equivalent experiential experience).

Technical training to maintain and develop technical competence in the one or more of the following:

AP1 - Electricity & AGL

AP2 - Mechanical & Pressure Systems (inc gas & Medigas)


AP4 Confined Spaces and/or working at Height

Technical qualifications as required by JSP 375

Experience of P405 Asbestos Management

Emergency first aid

Fire safety

Familiarity with and experienced in working to SRP safe system of work appropriate to the discipline

Training in accordance with the requirements of JSP 375

Continuing development training to maintain status

Health and Safety qualification at National Level 3, such as certificate in Occupational Health and Safety, NEBOSH General Certificate or another equivalent
